There is a price tag on sin, and therefore sin must be paid for. God cannot allow sin to go unpunished; He cannot overlook it but must act with righteous judgment, exacting vengeance against it. Bible says that there is a necessity of the shedding of blood to cover sin (Hebrews 9:22). Now, who is eligible to pay this cost? Is it any man? No, one finite human life, irrespective of his degree of righteousness, cannot atone for sin against an infinite God. Then what about lamb and bull or any other animal sacrifice? The bible clearly says-“But those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins, because it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins” (Hebrews 10:3-4).Then who is eligible to pay this cost? It is the one who is sinless. As described earlier, every man is stained by sin and has begotten the sinful nature as a result of disobedience.  No man could die and pay his own sin debt because all men are sinners as Romans 3:10, 23 clearly states: ” As it is written, there is none righteous, no, not one: . . . For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”  Only our holy and righteous God and Creator could do that. The only viable sacrifice must be an infinite one, which means only God Himself could atone for the sins of mankind. No other sacrifice would suffice. Only God Himself, an infinite Being, could pay the penalty owed to Himself… and He did it!!! He perfectly knew the requirement, the atonement for the sins and He did not step back to fulfil that, even if it was at His own cost for His loved ones.

Imagine the creator of this vast universe who has all knowledge and all power, coming to the ones, whom he created to be killed and sacrificed by the hands of the sinners. Well that’s exactly what took place almost 2,000 years ago. God “became flesh,” He became one of the creatures he made, i.e., Man. God in the supreme act of love, came to earth, took the form of a man, and lived on earth a perfect life. He who is perfect, righteous and holy lived among His very creatures that are unholy, unrighteous, even those who were enemies of him. If so, who is that? If God became flesh and came to earth, how was He known as? What was the name given to Him? He was none other than Jesus Christ!

Jesus was somebody who was with God, even before the foundations of the earth were laid.

He was with God in all the days of creation. He saw God do all the glorious things in heaven.

Well, actually, when we say ‘God’ we could almost mean three people – God the Father, God the Son, or God the Holy Spirit. These three are called ‘the trinity’ and each one is called a ‘person’ of the trinity. In Person’s they are three. In essence (i.e., each possess infinite and equal measure of love, sovereignty, righteousness, Justice, eternal life) they are One. When comes to the relationship, Jesus Christ is the Father’s “only begotten” Son. No man has seen God, the Father, but only His begotten son, who is in the bosom of the Father. The Scripture says in John 1:1-‘in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.’ Again in John 1:14 ‘The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.’The word’ is Jesus – who was with God in the beginning – and he became flesh – this is what ‘incarnate’ means – to be made flesh. This makes it clear that Jesus is the eternal God becoming human. It isn’t so much that God had a human son, but that God’s son became human for our sake. So, Jesus was God the Creator manifest in the flesh. His unique human birth, miraculously conceived with a divinely created body in a virgin’s womb, had also marked Him as the incarnate Son of God. To Mary, the angel had said: “Fear not . . . that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God” (Luke 1:30, 35).

His unique righteousness, in both character and action, still further marks Him as Son of God, for He alone possessed the divine nature from the beginning. Thus, being sinless from His birth.

The Son of God was in glory, but he saw us living in the slime pit of sin, and he loved us so much that he came into this slime pit to save us. He gave up his glory and he lived in humble circumstances.

The Lord of all comes in the form of a servant

The Lord of all comes in the form of a servant. He comes as a poor man. He is born in an obscure town, deliberately choosing a humble dwelling place. His mother is an ordinary girl, not some great lady. He father was no rich man, but a carpenter by profession. He chose nothing but poverty and mean surroundings, everything that was plain and ordinary and (in the eyes of most people) obscure. Yet, Jesus Christ is the greatest person who ever lived. His moral character, His teachings, and His influence upon history demonstrate that He is indeed God. Through two thousand years of advancements in education, technology, philosophy, medicine, and science, mankind has never produced a person who is worthy to be compared with Jesus. He is the subject of more than 300 Old Testament prophecies. His birth nearly 2,000 years ago, and events of His life had been foretold by many prophets during a period of 1,500 years. History confirms that even the smallest detail happened just as predicted. It confirms beyond a doubt that Jesus is the true Messiah, the Son of God and Savior of the world.

The crowds found His compassion constant, and He was humble and meek before His enemies. He treated the poor with respect and the children with love and tenderness. His character was pure, selfless, and sinless. He healed the sick, forgave the sinners, comforted the broken hearted, performed many miracles. (To know more about His life on earth, you can read through the New Testament Bible.) He led a life, in which He never sinned but fulfilled the entire law in Him.

God was well pleased in His Son in all that He did, during His days on earth, but this did not stop The God Almighty to give His only son as a sacrifice for the remission of sins. That’s what Bible quotes in John 3:10-‘For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son….’ Jesus Christ having led a righteous and sinless life in all his days, was most sought after by the Pharisees and Scribes to be killed. At the age of 33, He was condemned to death. At that time, crucifixion was the “worst” death, only for the worst criminals. Yet it was even more dreadful for Jesus, unlike other criminals condemned to death by crucifixion, Jesus was to be nailed to the cross by His hands and feet. Thus, at the appointed time, Jesus allowed sinful men, to condemn Him and put Him to death by crucifixion.

He was beaten, spit upon, slapped, humiliated, stripped off, and whipped. The whipping was so severe that it tore the flesh from His body. The beating so horrific that His face was torn and His beard ripped from His face. The crown of thorns cut deeply into His scalp.  Three nails, each 6-8 inches long, were hammered into the palms and the feet of Jesus tearing His tendons, causing unbearable pain. Then the roman guard pierced His side with a spear, and the blood flooded out. All these, without mentioning the humiliation, He suffered after carrying His own cross(almost 30kgs of weight) for almost 2 kilometres, while the crowd spat on His face and threw stones at Him. Imagine the struggle, the pain, the suffering, the courage and the torment that Jesus had to undergo! Jesus, as God incarnate, sacrificed Himself. No one forced Him. After hanging on the cross for around 6 hours, He laid down His life willingly, as He made clear speaking about His life: “No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again” (John 10:18).

God the Son sacrificed Himself to God the Father and thereby fulfilled all the requirements of the Law. His death and suffering was not simply physical. He was paying the price of our sins, every one of us and for every man that ever lived. He did it so that we could receive forgiveness for our sins and eternal life. Jesus had to endure this experience, to open the gates of Heaven, So that you can have free Access to GOD.

The moment of death of Jesus on the cross was the very focal point of redemptive history. Suddenly all nature seemed to stop and pay attention. At the moment of Christ’s death, the light departed from the sun, and the land was darkened at noonday. In those awful hours of darkness, Christ was bearing the judgment meant for His people. He was standing in their place as the wrath of God was being poured upon Him for their transgressions. That’s when Christ cried out to the Father saying – Christ’s outcry to the Father-, ‘Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?’ that is, ‘My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?’(Matthew 27: 46). Shortly afterward, “Jesus cried out again with a loud voice” saying “Tetelestai!” Then commending His spirit to God, He “yielded up His spirit” (Matthew 27:50).At the very moment of Christ’s death,  the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom  and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split (Matthew 27:51).  The graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; and coming out of the graves after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many” (Matthew 27:52-53). Till this date, you can find the proofs of all this in the city of Jerusalem, where God’s true Lamb died to provide forgiveness for all the sins.

The hour grew late, the Sanhedrin wanted the bodies off the crosses. Then the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first and of the other who was crucified with Him. But when they came to Jesus and saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs. But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out. And he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you may believe. For these things were done that the Scripture should be fulfilled, “Not one of His bones shall be broken” (John19: 32-36).

They buried the body of Christ. When the Lord Jesus died on the cross, it seemed as though the powers of darkness were victorious over Him. But on the third day He arose from the grave with a mighty triumph over Satan and the powers of darkness. Three days after the burial, in the morning, the women come to the tomb with their spices, fully expecting to find Jesus’ remains. In a real sense they were the first sceptics to become convinced that Jesus was raised! They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. The women were filled with confusion. Their confusion was broken by the appearance of two men in clothes that gleamed, who were the angels. The angel in their bright appearance spoke to the women saying- “Why do you look for the living among the dead?” “Remember how he told you, .The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, be crucified and on the third day be raised again’ “(Luke 9:22; 18:32-33). The angels’ words bring Jesus’ words back to mind. The women cannot keep to themselves what has just happened–they return to tell the eleven and those with them. The angels’ words bring Jesus’ words back to mind. The women couldn’t keep to themselves what has just happened–they returned to tell the eleven and those with them. Then Jesus appeared to them and He was on earth approximately 40 days before His ascension into the heaven. After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God. It happened just as Jesus had told them, “This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”

The Lord Jesus ascended back into Heaven as Victor over all the powers of darkness. He made a show of them openly. The Bible says, “And having spoiled (defeated) principalities and powers, He made a show of them openly, triumphing over them…” Colossians 2:15. What an amazing sight this must have been in the unseen spirit world as the Lord Jesus returned to Heaven as the mighty Victor over Satan and the powers of darkness.

What looked like a shameful death for Jesus was actually a glorious triumph for God’s plan, because it is through the cross that Jesus won victory over enemy powers, including Satan, sin and death. The cross is the place where Christ redeemed men from the power of Satan. Satan held men captive because of sin; but on the cross the Lord Jesus paid for our sins. He ended all of Satan’s rights over us. Men can now choose who they will serve. Those who choose Jesus Christ as their Lord are delivered from the power of Satan. Satan and his evil spirits were stripped of all their authority. The Father welcomed His beloved Son home to glory and gave Him the place of greatest honour and power. So, Now Jesus Christ is seated on the very throne of Heaven—far above all the powers of darkness. The Bible says,”…He (God) raised Him from the dead, and set Him at His own right hand in the heavenly places, Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion.” Ephesians 1:20, 21.

Now here is an amazing truth: CHRIST’S VICTORY OVER THE POWERS OF DARKNESS IS OUR VICTORY! What Christ did, He did as our Representative. We shared in His death, we shared in His burial, we shared in His resurrection, and we share also in His victory over Satan! God raised Christ up and seated Him at His own right hand, and He raised us up with Him. The Bible says,”(God) hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.” Ephesians 2:6

What is our new spiritual position? WE ARE SEATED WITH CHRIST FAR ABOVE THE POWERS OF DARKNESS. We who are in Christ are seated with Him in that position of power and victory “far above all.” We share His throne! To share Christ’s throne means to share His authority. We have been given authority over all the power of the enemy. The Lord Jesus said to His disciples, “Behold, I give you authority… over all the power of the enemy…” Luke 10:19. To have authority from Christ means that we have the right to act as His representatives. We can speak and act in His name. There is a difference between “power” and “authority.” A truck has power, but a policeman has authority. Back of the policeman is the authority of the city government, and the driver of the truck recognizes this and obeys him. Satan and his evil spirits have power, but Christ has given us authority. If we are abiding in Christ, we can speak in His name, and the powers of darkness must obey us. They recognize that back of us is the authority of Christ Himself.

Just like how, because of one man’s (Adam’s) disobedience sin entered the world and death reigned in everyone, likewise by one Man’s obedience (Jesus Christ), the sin is defeated and the death is overpowered to have an eternal life for those believe in the sacrifice laid down by God himself to Himself to fulfil the requirement of the law. This is how God the manifested His immeasurable love for us, by not sparing His only begotten son for the remission of the sins. “For if by one man’s offense death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ. For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.”- Romans 5:17-19. Thus it is made clear that Salvation is the gift of God, received by the act of propitiation of Jesus Christ our Savior. By His obedience even unto death….we by faith can be made righteous, which simply means “right with God.” Jesus also proved His divine character through His immeasurable love, an unconditional love unique in history. He willingly offered Himself as a sacrifice for all sin and evil, and He gave the free gift of everlasting life to every person who would accept it. Only God in the flesh could have embodied all these characteristics.

You still remain blinded by the Satan by not obeying the Gospel and allow him to deceive you? If you have not, you are lost in your sins. Why not obey the Gospel today so that you can have everlasting life? One of course is that God doesn’t send anyone to Hell. You send yourself there. God has done everything He possibly can to keep you out of Hell and still leave you as a person with free will and not just a robot. That’s the way He made us–after His image, after His likeness, the power to say “yes” or the power to say “no,” the power to reject our own Creator, and of course to take the consequences. He doesn’t send anybody to Hell, who believe in Him because across the road to Hell he has placed the cross of Christ- that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life’ John 3:16.

You probably have purchased some sort of insurance—For theft, car or personal liability–you name it. Insurance is a multibillion dollar business. But have you ever stopped to think that the whole business is built on the one word–MAYBE. I get my car insured. I’m not looking for an accident. I don’t expect one. I’m going to try not to have one, but maybe I will, and it would be awfully nice to be covered.  Hospitalizations? You don’t expect to be sick, you’re not planning to be sick, but maybe you will be, and boy, the hospital will take you to the cleaner if you’re not ready.

To the person who finds the whole subject of Hell and judgment distasteful, and who refuses to believe it, even if Jesus Christ taught it, I ask the question: What about that little word “maybe”? Maybe there is a Hell.

“Maybe” your car will have a wreck, and because of the little word “maybe” you’ll spend thousands of rupees on car insurance. And yet you’ll walk around town without ETERNAL life insurance. You walk the street, cross the highways, in a world of crime and terrorism and potential accidents all over the place, yet you gamble with eternity! You are living one big risk 24 hours a day! It just doesn’t make much sense, does it?

If there is no Hell, I’ve lost nothing; but just think what a benefit it is just to have the joy of the Lord, to know your sins are forgiven, to go to bed at night and to know that if you don’t make it through the night, you’ll wake up in Heaven! To have something forever settled. It is great. That’s finished business. Whatever comes my way, “to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:8).

Jesus taught about the reality of the fact of Hell. We may agree on different angles or interpretations in our understanding of it, but I just leave this with you. Our Lord spoke about it in a very serious manner. He wept over communities going to judgment. He prayed in Gethsemane with strong crying and tears because He knew about all these realities for which He has provided a way of escape.

I hope that you have settled this issue, and that you’ve opened your heart and your life to Christ. Make yourself safe either way. If there is a Hell, you’re safe. If there is no Hell, you still get the best out of this life. And you can’t lose on a deal like that. Make sure today that your trust is in Christ.

Jesus said-“I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me.” (John 14:6) Why is Jesus the only way?  Because Jesus said He was the only way.  Of course, just because someone says he is the only way, doesn’t mean he is.  But, this is why we need to look at Jesus’ miracles and the way He led His life on earth, (in complete obedience to the God, as spoken earlier) as a proof that He was right about who He said, He was.  Jesus walked on water, calmed a storm with a command, raised people from the dead, and rose from the dead Himself. He cured blind men, lepers, paralytics, deaf mute, changed water into wine, calmed a storm, walked on the waters of the sea, twice fed thousands of people with a few loaves of bread and a few fish — a word, a look, a gesture, a simple touch, and all nature obeyed Him as its Master. It is the fact of His incredible deeds. “Many other signs also did Jesus in the sight of His disciples, which are not written in this book.  But these are written, that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God:  And that believing, you may have life in His name.” (John 20:30-31). Everything that Jesus foretold, happened at its due time, because He did not speak of His own accord, but according to the Father who sent Him commanded Him to say all that He spoke. (John 12:49)

Now, if a man on the street said that he was the only way to God, we’d look at him and say, “Yeah, right.”  But, if the same man calmed a storm with a command, raised someone from the dead, walked on water, etc., that would add a lot of credibility to his claim.  After all, he is demonstrating extraordinary abilities consistent with his claim. This is the case with Jesus.  He made extraordinary claims and performed extraordinary deeds.  Therefore, it is logical to conclude that what Jesus said was true — especially since He claimed to be God (John 8:24,58; 10:30-33; 5:18).

  1. Christ alone was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin

(Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:18; Luke 1:26)

  1. Christ alone is God incarnate

(John 1:1; Hebrews 1:1; Philippians 2:5; 1 Timothy 2:5)

  1. Christ alone lived a sinless life

    (2 Corinthians 2:21; Hebrews 4:15; Hebrews 7:23; Hebrews 9:13; 1 Peter 2:21)

  1. Christ alone died a penal, substitutionary death

    (Isaiah 53:4; Romans 3:21; 2 Corinthians 2:21; Galatians 3:10)

  1. Christ alone rose from the dead triumphant over sin

(Acts 2:22; Romans 4:25; 1 Corinthians 15:3, 1 Corinthians 15:16)

Hence, Christ alone qualifies as Savior and Christ alone is Savior.
